The spring BasqueWater Alzola´s source is located in the district of the same name in the municipality of Elgoibar (Gipuzkoa) on the Deba river valley and surrounded by mountains with steep slopes.
Here, arises spontaneously a thermal hydrological unit that comes from the limestone massif called Izarraitz, which is completely watertight and independent of other existing springs in the area with the same or similar source.
One of the peculiarities of BasqueWater Alzola´s spring is the fact of being the only thermal in the area, despite of identical origin.
Studies by cavers experts and scientists have shown that this is due to the depth that reaches Alzola´s spring water during its filtration throw the earth, that goes from the top of Izarraitz limestone massif to Alzola´s neighborhood. This same study suspects that the island of limestone and marl from which comes the spring water is the same as found at the top of the massif and the water that runs throught over the years.
